UFC’s Quinton Jackson to play B. A. Baracus in “The A-Team” movie remake

Former UFC champion Quinton Jackson has been cast as B. A. Baracus in a film remake of the popular 1980s action/adventure television series, “The A-Team,” according to The Sun.

The legendary role was first played on the small screen by Mr. T during the series’ five-season television run from 1983 to 1987.

The film, currently in pre-production, is slated for a June 2010 release.

Although Jackson has not been officially announced as part of the project, Oscar nominee Liam Neeson (playing the role of Col. John “Hannibal” Smith) and “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper (Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck) are confirmed for the film, which is directed by Joe Carnahan.

In the original version of “The A-Team,” a group of former Vietnam War-era United States Army Special Forces work as soldiers of fortune while running from the military “for a “crime they didn’t commit.”

In the remake, the characters are ex-soldiers of the Iraq War who look to clear their names from a similar offense.

Jackson is no stranger to Hollywood and has had small parts in a variety of recent films and TV shows, including “Never Surrender,” “Hell’s Chain” and “The King of Queens.” Also reportedly in the running for the B. A. Baracus role were Tyrese Gibson and rapper The Game.

Jackson served as a coach on “The Ultimate Fighter 10,” which recently concluded taping and debuts next month on Spike TV. He then fights rival coach Rashad Evans in December at UFC 107 in Memphis.

It’s not known how the filming schedule may affect his fighting career, though given the size of the role, Jackson will likely need a decent amount of time away from the cage.

UFC Coming To Boston ???

ufc

PHILADELPHIA – Dana White is always looking forward, so it was no surprise that a frequent topic before and after last night’s UFC 101 was the future.

And in a surprise development – and an exciting one for Hub fight fans – the UFC president announced in a post-fight press conference that his organization is looking at Fenway Park [map] as a possible venue for the UFC when it finally breaks into the Boston market.

The UFC still needs the state to legislate mixed martial arts regulation. And White’s hopes toward that end were boosted two weeks ago by the state Senate’s 34-1 vote to endorse such a bill. Marc Ratner, the UFC vice president of regulation and governmental affairs, told the Herald at the time that a show in the summer of 2010 was being targeted.

Sen. James Timilty (D-Walpole), chairman of the Public Safety and Homeland Security committee, has said he hopes the bill will be signed into law by October.

The case with Philadelphia should further fuel optimism of UFC supporters. The city hosted last night’s event just five months after MMA regulation was legislated in Pennsylvania, illustrating how quickly the UFC can enter a new market.

R.I.P. Kimo

Kimo
R.I.P. Kimo…. this is sad news but not all that surprising if you saw the news about him being methed out a month or two ago… as ive said before I had a Black Box growing up so I started watching UFC at UFC 1 and in the early years Kimo was the man! i remember him walking out with a cross on his back and then going toe to toe with Royce Gracie and Royce pulling his hair and elbowing him haha shit was classic according to reports Kimo had a heart attack more than likely due to meth use, heres the story.

The New York Daily News reported earlier that former UFC star Kim “Kimo” Leopoldo died from a heart attack at the age of 41. TMZ has since confirmed his passing, however has not confirmed that his death was due to a heart attack.

Kimo was one of the UFC first major stars, having first fought with the organization in 1994 at UFC 3, losing to Royce Gracie. He wore out Gracie to the point that Gracie was unable to continue in the tournament and had to forfeit his match later that night.

Kimo has had legal problems over the past few years, including arrests for drugs, domestic violence and assault and battery. He was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after testing positive for Stanozolol and illegal stimulants after his match with Ken Shamrock at UFC 48 in 2004, his last bout with the organization.

He last fought at Extreme Wars 5: Battlegrounds in October of 2006, losing to Wes Sims (who is one of the contestants of season ten of The Ultimate Fighter) via TKO. He finished his MMA career with a 10-7-1 record.
