Raekwon’s OB4CL2 vs Inspectah Deck and 7L/Esoteric CZARFACE

I was requested to start video blogging, I’ll be doing retrospective, verses and album reviews and anything else I can manage to get in. This will act as a companion piece to The HipHopHeads Podcast. In my opinion the best 2 Wu-Tang releases since Supreme Clientele have been OB4CL2 and CZARFACE. In This video I debate with myself on which was the better release? Which do you think was better?

Who Ripped It Better? Part 1: Raekwon vs Royal Flush

Last year, Raekwon had the album of the year with his presumed classic OB4CL2. On that incredible album there was a familiar track called Sonny’s Missing, where Rae spits some outstanding gangster shit. A murderous tale about some gangleader rivalry where one gangster is killed by being thrown off the side of a building, the whole track is quotable but the mental visual is outstanding, “they had em’ spread out, G position, opened his jeans up, shot him in his leg bone, he rose up like King Tut”.

The familiar part of the track is courtesy of the beat laid down by Pete Rock whom sampled The Education of Sonny Carson, perhaps that’s the inspiration to Rae’s song title. The same beat was featured on his album NY’s Finest which came out the year  prior. Pete Rock fans probably instantly recognized the recycled beat on OB4CL2 while it went over others heads because IMO NY’s Finest was incredibly slept on. Royal Flush went about the track as an interview, and he ripped it. “Let me talk to you suckers, you fake ass hustlers, you get bricks for 17, so ya boss is my customer, you lil’ ass nigga, with the mighty midget figures, while you was playing Nintendo, I was fuckin up the dishes, had a bad bitch, butt ass, baggin work in the kitchen, the dope, call it Candy Girl, cuz it felt like New Edition”.
