FROM 1988-2004, WE EXPERIENCED SO MUCH SUCCESS TOGETHER THAT WE WERE ABLE TO EXPAND OUR BUSINESSES INDEPENDENTLY AND GIVE EACH OTHER WHAT GURU CALLED “CREATIVE SPACE”, BEFORE PLANNING TO REUNITE FOR OUR 7TH LP WHEN THE TIME WAS RIGHT. TRAGICALLY, WE WILL NEVER REACH THAT DAY.
I’VE BEEN ASKED TO COMMENT ON A LETTER SPEAKING ILL OF ME WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY WRITTEN BY GURU IN HIS DYING DAYS. ALL I WILL SAY ABOUT IT IS THAT OUR TIME TOGETHER WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE BUILT A HIP HOP LEGACY TOGETHER, AND NO ONE CAN RE-WRITE HISTORY OR TAKE AWAY MY LOVE FOR HIM. ONE THING I WOULD NEVER DO IS PLAY AROUND WITH THE TRUTH ABOUT HIS LIFE.

Rapper Bumpy Knuckles has lashed out at MC Solar, claiming he is releasing bad information to the public on behalf of the late Guru of Gangstarr, who died from cancer on Monday (April 19th) at the age of 43.
Bumpy recorded with Guru and DJ Premier in particular on a number of records, including the classic track “The Militia,” from Gangstarr’s 1998 classic, Moment of Truth.
Bumpy compared Solar to Yolanda Saldívar, the woman who stalked Tejano singer Selena.
Saldivar, who was the president of Selena’s fan club, eventually shot and killed the 23-year-old singer.
“It is like that lil fat lady that was obsessed with selena(rip) he stalkd my boy and held something over his head. IT WILL COME OUT!” Bumpy Knuckles Tweeted today (April 21st).
Bumpy, who is known for his no-holds barred style of rhyming, labeled Solar a “sick f***in weirdo” and implied there might be a financial motive to blame for the controversy surrounding Guru’s statements, which were allegedly made prior to his death.
“ONCE YOU GET THE LIFE INSURANCE MONEY YOU WILL PROBABLY MOVE OUTTA THE USA!! UK JAPAN CHINA & EVERYWHERE ELSE,” Bumpy continued.
The rapper also called upon Solar to stop releasing statements and release the details of the autopsy conducted on the famous rapper.
“IF IM WRONG PROVE ME WRONG! GURU HAS A FAMILY THAT DIDNT BEAT HIM UP & PHYSICALLY ABUSE HIM YOU BITCHMADE WHORE!”
Guru’s family released a statement today claiming that Guru had been comatose since suffering a heart attack in February, casting doubts on a series of statements allegedly made by the rapper prior to his death.

I can’t believe it… GURU was one of my favorite MC’s of all time and Gangstarr one of my favorite groups of all time. Terrible day to say the least and the problem thats more bothersom are all the lies, deceipt and foulness the fans have had to endure during this whole ordeal. Not only do we lose a legend, an inspiration, a friend and in some cases family but we’ve (I) have lost respect not for GURU but human beings in general. Even Guru dying of cancer comes as a shock…
For months/weeks we were lead to believe this was no big deal and now that im looking at its just lies. These thoughts shouldnt be consuming my mind all I should be thinking about is the great music that GURU has done over the years, Instead, while GURU is at his sickest this chump Solar is sending out press releases on how GURU is putting out albums…. apparently from his death bed, do you see where im going with this? We the fans knew GURU had health problems and when GURU went into the hospital before we were told it was a HEART ATTACK that put him down, which it may have been, but apparently bigger problems were below the surface.GURU is supposedly in and out of comas tweeting and just talking shit. Nope, it’s really Solar spreading poison, he’s interviewed later and shrugs it off and snickers about it. We’re told GURUs out of a coma and doing great and will recover… meanwhile we learn now that hes dead that hes been battling cancer for over a year… How do you forget to drop a fact like this? You ever hear of cancer awareness?
Well the icing on the cake is the letter… the letter from GURU… GURU’s last words… and the whole thing stinks… it starts sincere then quickly takes a turn. Not only does the suspected writer forget how make a proper paragraph and instead of saying peace and love… he goes out of his way to insult Premier and he basically thanks the villain instead… shocking. Its funny after I’ve read this through a couple of times where it says Solar, Jazzamatazz, and album names I’ve replaced with DJ Premier, Gangstarr and Gangstarr albums and and vice versa and the whole things makes much more sense. To refer to Premier as my ex-DJ just doesnt sound like GURU thats like saying Michael was just a dancer.
Read the letter…. Rest in Peace GURU you were the best from Boston and one of the greatest MC’s of all time and you’ll be remembered for the lyrics you alone made… And the great music you made. I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself. He has been with me by my side on my many hospital stays, operations, doctors visits and stayed with me at my home and cared for me when I could not care for myself. Solar and his family is my family and I love them dearly and I expect my family, friends, and fans to respect that, regardless to anybody’s feelings on the matter. It is my wish that counts. This being said I am survived by the love of my life, my sun KC, who I trust will be looked after by Solar and his family as their own. Any awards or tributes should be accepted, organized approved by Solar on behalf myself and my son until he is of age to except on his own.
I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. As the sole founder of GangStarr, I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans. I equally am proud of my Jazzmatazz series and as the father of Hip-Hop/Jazz. I am most proud of my leadership and pioneering efforts on Jazzmatazz 4 for reinvigorating the Hip-Hop/Jazz genre in a time when music quality has reached an all time low. Solar and I have toured in places that I have never been before with GangStarr or Jazzmatatazz and we gained a reputation for being the best on the planet at Hip-Hop/Jazz, as well as the biggest and most influential Hip-Hop/Jazz record with Jazzmatazz 4 of the decade to now. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small mindedness, greed, and ignorance. As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time and is my most creative and experimental to date. I hope that our music will receive the attention it deserves as it is some of the best work I have done and represents some of the best years of my life.

The Guru situation… it sounds like something from a Tarantino movie, and thus far it sort of plays like one. It’s been hard to keep up and keep track of all the rumors spread around the internet or from people just talking on the streets about it,but one thing is seems to be true, Guru (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) legendary MC from Gang Starr (hi Kim) went into cardiac arrest and possibly a coma. Some odd talk was strewn about from GURU as well SOLAR via cryptic twitter posts which lead to Justin Elam-Ruff (GURU’s Nephew) to come out and say that Solar was up to some shenanigans and wouldnt update GURU’s fam or allow them to see GURU, this lead to this quote from Solar,
“I have nothing but the deepest love and respect for The Elam family. But I have not stopped anybody from seeing him! Guru’s brother, sister and niece has visited with him and his brother was here for three days. I am in touch with them on a daily basis. Guru’s family dynamic and who he wants to look out for his interests is Guru’s business and best left to Guru to discuss. I will state that Guru wanted this matter to be kept private to protect his loved ones and fans from this ordeal, and from it becoming a circus, which it is becoming. Guru has made clear he does not want anything to do with certain people from his past, and for them too be making false statements about his health is unacceptable.” The producer continued, “Guru’s well being and need to heal is what I am concerned with,and that Guru’s wishes in this matter be observed.”

this past friday i had the responsibility to pick up Justin Elam-Ruff from the airport and take him to the livefromheadqcourterz radio show….thats right this young man after posting this videothis and this hit the wire….uhhh huuuhh!!!… and shaking up, not only my world, but, also the hip hop world……he made another decision, got on a plane and flew across the country to finish what he started…. the next morning i had the responsibility to take him to the hospital where his uncle remains in a coma..he really hadn’t slept much especially since at around 5am saturday morning….
we approached the information desk in the main lobby of the hospital…we were asked “how can i help you gentlemen” by the intake woman at the front desk…Justin replied…”i’m here to visit my uncle keith elam”….the rather nice but professional older woman who asked the first question raised her eyebrow and responded…”lemme check the list”…..her first response after checking the first list was…”well your name is not on this list let me check the other list”……she then continued….”oh ok, your name is on this list”….”i’m sorry i cannot allow you to go see the patient”…yeah let that marinate… it seems like there were two lists…one list (the first list she looked at) had the names of people allowed to visit(the patient) …..the other list(the second list she checked) had the names of people who were not allowed to visit(the patient)

JUSTIN NICHOLAS ELAM-RUFF’s name was on that second list….TRUTH!!

his attempt to see his uncle at this point in the saga was DENIED!!……FACT!!
