R.I.P. WBCN Boston

BCN

The Rock of Boston WBCN is done after today which is sad news for me not because they have a great format or play great music but its where I 1st heard Howard Stern in the early 90’s back then he was on at night  and i use to listen before going to bed along with taping the show to share with friends in school the next day. Well BCN it’s been real but losing Howard killed you and then playing Godsmack everyother song doesnt help much. Apparently theyre going sports! here’s the official word from WHDH

BOSTON — WBCN is done and Boston will have a new all-sports radio station.

The Boston Bruins announced today that they have reached an agreement to extend their contract with CBS RADIO Boston.

The new contract, however, will have the Bruins radio home on 98.5 The Sports Hub, which will debut Thursday, August 13.

It will be the only FM sports station of its kind in the Boston marketplace. WEEI dominates sports radio ratings in the Boston market, but is an AM station.

It will also serve as the radio home of the New England Patriots, beginning with their 2009 NFL season.

On Wednesday, August 12, MIX 98.5 will change its dial location and move to 104.1 FM, becoming MIX 104.

WBCN will sign off after 41 years on the air.

98.5 The Sports Hub will feature WBCN’s “Toucher and Rich” morning show and a variety of sports programming.
