Because it came from Brooklyn, many Bronx residents flouted it as derivative. The song however, pushed rap into the public eye. Since then, Brooklyn has been the birth place & home of some of the most important headz in hip hop history……Sugarhill Gang, Chub Rock, Blahzay Blahzay, Group Home, Memphis Bleek ,A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr – (Not born …but Rep B.K.),Smif N Wessun, Special Ed, Sean Price, Killah Priest, AZ, MOP, Gravy, Lil Kim, Das Efx, O.C., Masta Ace, O.G.C., Buckshot, Jeru The Damaja, Shyne, Prime Minister Pete Nice,Whodini, Big Daddy Kane, Notorious BIG. Audio Two, Jay-Z, MC Lyte, Maino, Papoose, Talib Kweli & Hi Tek, Mos Def, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, RZA, Uncle Murder, Smoothe Da Hustler, Trigga The Gambler, Group Home, Cella Dwellas.
